Parent Communication

parent communicationAt Links, we believe that a close school/home partnership is essential. There should be regular communication with parents so we are aware of any changes and developments that take place.

There are regular parent-teacher meetings to discuss the progress of individual students.

There are Parent Evenings organized so Links can share its plans with parents and they, in turn, can raise issues that concern them about the school.

Also, newsletters and circulars are sent home to make sure that the Links community is kept informed of the latest news.

Another method of communication is via the Parent Body that is involved with organizing extra-curricular activities & events.

Parent Teacher Meetings

Parent teacher meetings are held once every term. Occasionally, extra appointments are arranged where there is a need. This is especially important when the teacher suspects some minor problem. Should a parent need to discuss a particular aspect of the child’s schooling or have any queries we would be happy to arrange an appointment with your child’s teacher or Coordinator / Head Teacher.

Appointments

As parents / guardians are most welcome in the school, there are daily opportunities to talk informally to the teachers, before and after school. However, unless there is an urgent matter to discuss, please refrain from speaking to the teachers during school hours.

If there are any serious concerns, it is possible to make an appointment with the class teacher Coordinator / Head Teacher during the day. This allows us to work together to find the best possible solution.

Warning Letters

Warning letters will be issued by the school when required to formally notify & secure the support of the parents. There are two different types of warning letters:

  1. For disciplinary issues – Warning letters will request the parents to attend a meeting in order to tackle the disruptive behaviour their child has exhibited. Such a letter will only be sent where a number of strategies have already been attempted by the school or where the behaviour is of such gravity.
  2. For academic performance – Warning letters will be sent to alert the parents regarding their child’s performance where the performance indicates that he / she is at risk of not being promoted to the next academic year. The school spends a good deal of time identifying students at risk and giving them additional support. However, a letter is issued to seek further support of the parents in helping their child to improve. Where the child is unable to meet those standards deemed essential for the next year, a second letter will be sent stating that in the interest of the child, they will need to repeat the year again. In unusual cases, Links will advise that the school is unable to meet the needs of the child and that attentive and specialised educational provision is needed.

Custody Issues

Where care and custody has been granted to one party, either parent / guardian, the school will require evidence such as a Court Order.
